# Database Corruption Mitigation

Fabric stores Customer data in Relational Databases hosted on AWS RDS (Relational Database Service) servers. AWS RDS provides several features to protect against database corruption. Here are some ways that AWS RDS **protects against database corruption**:

### 1. Automated backups

AWS RDS automatically creates backups of your database at regular intervals. This ensures that you have a recent and consistent backup in case of corruption. You can also enable point-in-time recovery, which allows you to restore your database to a specific point in time within the retention period.

### 2. Multi-AZ deployment

When you deploy your database in a Multi-AZ (Availability Zone) configuration, AWS RDS creates a standby replica in a different Availability Zone. This standby replica is kept in sync with the primary database and can be promoted to the primary role in case of a failure. This provides high availability and helps to protect against corruption.

### 3. Checksums

AWS RDS uses checksums to detect and prevent data corruption. Checksums are generated for each block of data stored in the database and are compared against the checksums stored in the database. If a checksum mismatch is detected, AWS RDS can automatically replace the corrupt block with a good one from a standby replica.

### 4. Monitoring

AWS RDS provides several monitoring tools that can help detect and diagnose issues that could lead to database corruption. You can use Amazon CloudWatch to monitor database metrics, set alarms, and get notifications when certain thresholds are exceeded.
