# Advance Search: Boolean field filters

Related ticket: FABRIC-8085

This document explains how to **filter data using boolean fields** in API queries, how the operators are structured, and how to construct valid filter requests.

***

### 🧠 Overview

Boolean fields support a specific set of operators that define how filtering is applied.\
Each boolean field **must first be enabled through RB (Resource Builder)** before it can be used in filters.

***

### ⚙️ Supported Operators

Each boolean field supports the following operators:

| Operator      | Description                                        |
| ------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| `bool`        | Filters by `true` or `false` value.                |
| `is_null`     | Filters results where the field is `NULL`.         |
| `is_not_null` | Filters results where the field is **not** `NULL`. |

### 🧩 Example: Boolean Filter

Example boolean field: `origination.new_is_studio`

#### Request Example

```bash
curl 'https://{API_URL}/records?q=&filter[deleted][eq]=false&filter[origination.new_is_studio][bool]=true&per_page=15&page=1&search_type=records' \
  -H 'token: your-client-token-here'
```

#### Explanation

| Component                   | Meaning                                   |
| --------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| `filter[...]` | Standard filter structure for all fields. |
| `origination.new_is_studio` | Boolean field being filtered.             |
| `[bool]`                    | The operator.                             |
| `true`                      | The value to match (`true` or `false`).   |

### 🧰 Other Boolean Operator Examples

#### 1. Filter for `NULL` values

```bash
curl 'https://{API_URL}/records?q=&filter[deleted][eq]=false&filter[origination.new_is_studio][is_null]=true&per_page=15&page=1&search_type=records' \
  -H 'token: your-client-token-here'
```

#### 2. Filter for `NOT NULL` values

```bash
curl 'https://{API_URL}/records?q=&filter[deleted][eq]=false&filter[origination.new_is_studio][is_not_null]=true&per_page=15&page=1&search_type=records' \
  -H 'token: your-client-token-here'
```
